Planet Lodge

Located in the more suburban area of Arusha, away from the hustle of town and long or short drive (depending on the traffic through the center of town) from Arusha Airport and 48km from Kilimanjaro airport. Planet Lodge offers up a decently mid range budget accommodation in surrounds that will appeal to those seeking a respite from their hours of travel. A casual atmosphere with staff that are always smiling the four acres of heavenly garden grounds make for a peaceful and serene surprise of a stop over.

The lodge

A modest and simple entrance belies a pleasant reception area, opening up into a communal lounge space filled with varied comfortable couches in leather, suede and wood. Wooden framed windows and shutter doors open up onto a large shaded outside patio and into the dense garden beyond. There are often power outages in Arusha, so make sure you spend a lot of time relaxing by the swimming pool and outside bar area, sharing stories or shaking off the safari dust.

The rooms

Modest traditional circular African styled chalets with textured grey walls and quirky tin roofing are scattered around the green manicured garden areas. Orderly and comfortable each chalet has a large king sized bed, wrap around mosquito netting, the all important air conditioning and a private bathroom. Stone flooring , African motif patterned bed spreads and a small writing desk add some safari touches to the simply styled interiors.

“Note that the lodge is outside of the main town of Arusha and the shuttle bus only travels a few times in and out of town during the day. You can get a local taxi to explore the area if you wish, but be aware of traffic peak hours”
